Things were still pretty busy, but I found my way back to the Oregon beers at the Oregon Brewers Festival. And now that it had been a long enjoyable day drinking beer, I was feeling a like having more malty beers rather than the big hop bombs I was having earlier in the day. When I saw the name on this one from Cascade Lakes Brewing in Redmond, OR, I knew it would probably fit the bill.
As you might suspect, it had a deep brown color, and it had a thin, creamy, tan head. It had a very nice aroma, with some nutty and roasty smells.
The body was light-medium, and it was very drinkable and smooth. There was a bit of a malty sweetness up front, and it finished with a toasty nut flavor which lasted into the aftertaste. It was a very good combination of toasty and nutty flavors with a bit of hop bitterness and a good dose of malt sweetness.
This would go very well with some good, slow cooked BBQ beef ribs or brisket. The malty flavors would go great with the sauce and beef flavors, and the light body would help to wash it down easily.
Overall, I thought this was a pretty good beer, which I found to be very drinkable. It did have a very prominent nutty flavor which could get to be a bit much, but for enjoying a single beer or two, it had a great flavor.
