It’s still Friday night, and we’re on our third stop of the night. This time, it’s Flatbranch Pub and Brewery, a brewpub in Columbia, MO. If you ever find yourself at Mizzou, I highly recommend having a meal and drinks here. The Chokes and Cheese dips is awesome, and it’s even better when it’s on their Flatbranch burger. However, tonight, there was no meal, only beer with fraternity brothers.
Along with the beers my fraternity brother from New York sent me for this blog, he also sent along his homebrew attempt to clone the IPA version of this beer. So, I thought I’d give it a try.
It was an amber/orange color and had a thin head when it arrived in front of me. The aroma was faint, but I picked up a sweet malty smell.
When I took a drink, it was light to medium bodied and it was smooth. It seemed to lack much carbonation at all, which made it less refreshing and the maltiness a little bit stronger. There were no hops apparent at all.
I think this beer had some decent potential, but without much carbonation, I found myself sipping on it and not really enjoying it. As far as a food pairing, I’d go with something salty, like the pub fries to encourage your thirst.
