I’m in Seattle for work and arrived at the airport around lunchtime. I did a little bit of research before I arrived – including trying the Elysian The Immortal IPA sent to me by my cousin who lives here – and found out this location was between the airport and my hotel downtown. It also gave me a chance to check out the Seattle Seahawks football and Seattle Mariners baseball stadiums, located across the street from here.
Location: On tap and served in a curved pint glass from at Elysian Brewing by the fields in Seattle, WA.
Numbers: 7.4% ABV, 17.3% OG, ~ 230 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s dark orange/amber in color and fairly clear with a thin, creamy head that left some nice lacing on the glass. The aroma is mostly a sweet, brown sugar and cinnamon-like smell.
Taste & Feel: It’s got a solidly medium body, with a smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel. The flavor up front is vegital and pumpkin like, with a sweet, warm brown sugar flavor coming in during the middle. The fullness of brown sugar continues through the finish, with more cinnamon flavors coming through. The aftertaste lingers for a brief minute or two with cinnamon and sweet brown sugar flavors.
Food Pairing: Any pumpkin beer would obviously go with a slice of pumpkin pie. However, if I had to pair this beer with something else, I think I would choose something bready or beefy to cut through the sweetness of the beer. Therefore, I’d go with a big, thick juicy burger.
Overall Impression: Whenever I have a pumpkin beer, it’s hard not to compare it to pumpkin pie. This beer was not very pumpkin pie like, but had a good pumpkin spice flavor nonetheless. Overall, I thought it was a middle-of-the-road pumpkin ale with some good, warm, flavors that remind me of fall. It was a tad bit sweet with brown sugar flavors, but still pretty good.
