It’s Friday night and after the week we’ve had, my wife and I really needed to go out for pizza and a beer. We went to Flingers Pizza & Pub here in Bloomington, IL, because they have a great tomato basil “cheesebomb,” as well as some great craft beers on tap. This was one of a couple craft beers on the menu I hadn’t had yet, but had been looking forward to trying.
Location: On tap and served in a regular pint glass at Flinger’s Pizza & Pub in Bloomington, IL.
Numbers: 6.7% ABV, 50 IBUs, 215 Calories
Appearance & Aroma: It’s brick red in color and very clear, with a thin creamy head on it – which left some nice lacing on the glass. There’s a very nice piney-resin aroma as well.
Taste & Feel: It’s got a medium body and a fairly crisp mouthfeel. There’s a sweet caramel maltiness up front, which quickly transitions into a citrusy-floral hop flavor in the middle. The hop flavors grew even more bitter in the finish with more pine-like flavors and bitterness. The citrus-pine-floral hop flavors stick around for a bit in the aftertaste.
Food Pairing: This is a pretty hoppy beer, with a good amount of hop flavors and bitterness. It went perfectly with our tomato-basil cheesebomb, as all of the flavors mixed incredibly well with the hop flavors in this beer.
Overall Impression: While I hadn’t had this beer yet, I’d heard about it and was really looking forward to trying it. I enjoyed the caramel maltiness up front, as well as the hop flavors and bitterness. Even with all the hoppiness, it was very drinkable and went down quickly and easily. Overall, I thought it was a very flavorful, solid IPA that I’d have again.
