I was only going to stay at the Rogue hospitality suite at the Oregon Brewers Festival for a short time, but there were a couple of things that convinced me to stay for a little while longer. First, Brett Joyce, the president of Rogue Ales stopped in, followed by Patrick Rue and brother Chris from The Bruery (I had their 7 Grain Saison at the fest). Second, I was having a nice conversation with brewers from Eugene City Brewery and Pyramid Brewery. Finally, they had several bottles of their new Chatoe Rogue OREgasmic Ale. The story behind the beer is that a few years ago Rogue built its own farm to grow its own hops and barley. The “ORE” in OREgasmic is because all of the hops and barley are grown in Oregon at the farm and “first growth” because the first hops and malts are used in this brew.
It seemed to have a dark orangish color with a thin creamy head on it. The aroma was hoppy with mostly citrus type hop smells.
It had a light-medium body and a creamy mouthfeel. The flavors were sweet and caramelly up front, with a bit of fruitiness, before giving way to a solid citrusy hop flavor. The hop flavor lasted through the aftertaste for quite some time.
I guess if I had to pair this with anything, it would also have to come from Oregon. So my thought would be a nice Oregon salmon, maybe coated in a nice Teriyaki glaze. Overall, I thought this was a tasty, drinkable beer, but the story behind it makes it perfect for my Travel Oregon beer adventure.
