134. McMenamins Concordia – Lucky Charms Irish Red

On the day I arrived, I had a friend tell me about McMenamin’s Edgefield which had a brewery.  As I learned during my trip, the McMenamin’s fix up old buildings and other areas and turn them into breweries and other fun event spaces.  The beer at Edgefield was fairly good, so I thought I’d give this one a try.

It was a reddish brown color and had a creamy tan head.  There was a nice, slightly caramelly malt aroma to it.

The body was light, and it had a fairly smooth and creamy mouthfeel.  The flavors were slightly malty with some toasty and nutty flavors coming through.  It was a very drinkable beer with a bit of a dry finish.

It reminded me a bit of an Octoberfest, so I think this beer would go great for late fall football tailgates, so as far as a food pairing, I’m going to go with pulled pork or a brat.  It had a light body, but a creaminess and malty tastiness to it that I really liked.

My Rating: ★★★½☆
