I had a great time at the ABNormal brewers holiday party last night, and got to try a few new beers. Unfortunately, it’s tough to do a review the beers in a situation like that. Today the snow is coming down and the wind is blowing super hard. We’re literally under a “Blizzard Warning.” So, at lunch I tried this beer, another one my friend Jim got me while he was on his trip to Wisconsin.
The color was golden and it was very clear with a soapy and creamy, bright white head. It had a very light earthy hop aroma with a nice malty smell.
The body was light and watery, and the mouthfeel was slightly carbonation crisp. The carbonation was the only thing noticeable up front, followed by a bit of a bready maltiness. The hoppiness seemed a bit earthy and piney, but also kind of stale.
This would probably go with almost any food, as the flavors were fairly neutral – pizza, burgers, fries, etc. The hop flavor was no where near as big as the name would suggest, so the hop flavor wouldn’t get in the way of any other flavors.
I appreciated Jim bringing me back from his trip up to Wisconsin, and I’m glad I got a chance to try this beer. That being said, I’m not sure how long it was on the shelf before he bought it, and I suspect it may have been there a while, as the hop flavor was not as big as the name suggested. It even tasted a little bit stale. While it was a bit watery, and easily drinkable, it’s likely not one I would try again if given the chance.
