71. Boulevard Brewing – Pale Ale Draft

We were are Lil Rizzo’s down at the Lake of the Ozarks for my grandma’s 80th birthday party.  My first beer was an Anchor Steam, and for my second beer, I went with the Boulevard Pale Ale.  I figured we were close enough to the Kansas City brewery that it had a good possibility that it would be fresh and hoppy.

When it arrived, it had a nice amber color and was very clear.  It had a thin creamy head, but there did appear to be a lot of bubbles in the beer.  There wasn’t much of an aroma, only a slightly hoppy smell with some malt in the background.

It had a very light body and was very crisp.  The carbonation was very noticeable on my tongue, and made it a bit sharp.  It had a nice light malty flavor up front, which gave way to a grassy hop flavor.  While the hop flavor was mostly grassy, there were some of the grapefruity and citrusy flavors.

Overall it wasn’t a bad beer, and fairly refreshing given the high level of carbonation.  I think it would probably go well with almost any food since it was ligth and crisp, but I’m thinking it would be a good complement to a hot dog on a hot day at a baseball game.
