I’m still stuck in the Memphis Airport, with not a whole lot of beer selection. However, since I’m here, and there’s beer, I thought I’d just knock another macrobrew off the list. After having ABInBev’s Shock Top Belgian White, I went for another “Belgian” beer – Stella Artois. As a side note, if you find yourself in Memphis, I highly recommend finding a place to eat/drink before you get to the airport, as there wasn’t much selection, and the food was horrible, but I digress…
It had a very pale yellow color, and was almost crystal clear. It had a thin head on it, and almost no detectable aroma. Maybe there was a hint of a lagery/bready smell.
When I took a drink it had an extremely light body, and was very crisp and refreshing. It was almost like water with the exception of a very slight bready flavor.
It reminded me quite a bit of the Peroni I had on my last work trip, but it was less buttery and had slightly more bitterness. It was a very drinkable beer because it was so light and lacking in flavor. I think it would be a great beer pairing for spicy chicken wings – quenching thirst and helping to absorb the heat. Unless it was an extremely hot summer day, and my choices were limited, I’m not sure I’d reach for a Stella Artois.
